MISUNDERSTOOD PASSAGES

 

Do studies of the following passages which are misunderstood or hard to accept.  Remember to use the basic hermeneutical principle:

"Take everything literally in context, unless the Scriptures say it is symbolic or unless it is physically impossible for it to be literal or to take place in a literal manner -- with the exception of miracles."

 

Genesis 12.1-3 (Explain who the you is in verse three.)

Exodus 20.7 (Explain what taking the name of YAHWEH in vain means.)

Deut. 6.4 (Do a complete exegetical study of this one verse.)

Matt. 3.13-17 (Explain how "all righteousness" -- v. 15 -- was fulfilled)

Matt. 7.15-20 (Explain who the false prophets are and how we can identify them.)

Matt. 7.21-23 (Explain who this group of unsaved people are -- name names and denominations.  Explain why they think they are saved, but are not.)

Matt. 12.22-32 (Explain what the blasphemy of HOLY SPIRIT is.)

Matt. 16.18,19 (Explain who the rock is of verse 18 and what it means to loose or bind something.  Explain if this promise was only to the Apostles or to all believers.)

Matt. 24.34 (Explain what generation will not pass away and when all these things will take place.)

Matt. 24.36 & Mark 13.34 (Explain what event YAHSHUA was speaking about and whether or not we can determine when that event will take pplace ahead of time.)

Matt. 24.37-41; Lk. 17.26-37 (Explain who is taken and who is left behind and what happens to each group.)

Matt. 24.45-51 (Explain who the wicked servant is.  Is he a believer of the Age of Grace or someone else?  Does this passage teach that a true believer can lose his salvation?)

Matt. 28.18-20  (Explain in detain what we should all be doing.)

Lk. 21.28 (Explain when "these things" will begin to take place and what group of people are supposed to look up for their redemption.)

Romans 5.12 (Explain whether or not death spread to plants, animals, birds and insects or just to Adamkind.)

Romans 8.26,27 (Explain whether or not the intercession of the HOLY SPIRIT in our prayers results in speaking an unknown language or whether the intercession is silent and not heard by anyone.)

Romans 12.20 (Explain what it means to heap burning coals on the heads of one's enemies by being good to them.)

1 Cor. 2.9-11, 16 (Explain whether or not it's possible for us to know in this life what Heaven and the Millennial and Eternal Kingdoms will be like -- v. 9 --

1 Cor. 11.20-34 (Explain what Paul meant when he said we are to take of the Lord's Supper in a worthy manner and to examine yourself.  Did he mean we should examine our spiritual condition before eating or examine the manner in which we eat of the supper.  Explain how the church of the First Century went about eating the Lord's Supper and what problems developed.) 

1 Cor. 14.34,35 (Explain what the worship customs were of the First Century church in Korinth and what Paul meant when he commanded women to remain silent.)

2 Cor. 10.3-5 (Explain what Paul is telling us to do.  Describe what our weapons are and what fortresses we should be destroying. Also explain which speculations and lofty ideas we should be destroying.  Be sure to explain what thoughts we should be taking captive to Christ.)

1 Thes. 5.1-6 (Explain why the Thessalonians didn't need Paul to explain the times and epochs.  Explain what the day of the Lord is.  Explain who is saying "Peace and safety" and when do they say it.  What day will overtake the world like a thief, but shouldn't take believers by surprise.

2 Thes. 2.1-3 (Explain what event the "coming of the Lord and our gathering together to Him" is.  Explain what two things will take place before believers are gathered together with the Lord.)  

1 Tim. 2.9-16 (Do a thorough exegetical study and refute the arguments some make that females can teach men and be pastors.)

1 Peter 3.1-6 (Explain why a believing wife should submit to her husband -- even if he is not saved. Also explain whether or not  believing wives should call their husband "lord" as Sarah did.)

2 Peter 2.4 & Jude 6,7 (Explain what sin the angels commited who were cast into the abyss.  Did all the fallen angels commit this sin?  What domain did they leave and where did they go to?  Explain what is meant that the fallen angels went after strange flesh.)

Rev. 3.20 (Explain whether the request for fellowship by YAHSHUA is being made to believers or non-believers.)

Rev. 4.1 (Explain whether or not the catching up of John to Heaven is symbolic of the Rapture.)

Rev. 6.16,17  (Explain when the wrath of YAHWEH is poured out.)

Rev. 13.16,17 & Rev. 14.9-12 (Explain whether or not the mark of the beast is a literal mark or merely symbolic and what it may be symbolic of.  Is the warning to not worship the beast and take his mark real if the mark is not literal?)

Rev. 21.8 & Rev. 22.15 (Explain where and how long the wicked are punished.)
